A group of students from Hereward College have enjoyed a one week work placement at Atherstone Leisure Complex.

The College specialises in teaching young adults with physical disabilities and learning disabilities and Manager of the Leisure Complex, Claire Lodge lectures there on BTEC and NVQ sport qualifications.  She offered placements at the Leisure Complex for the six students, who are all keen to work in the leisure industry.  They then spent time meeting the staff and working with them in the Leisure Complex’s Fitness Suite, Pool and on reception.

Claire said:  “ It really was a pleasure to have the students with us at Atherstone and I think they benefitted from having a varied timetable to see all aspects of our work.  I know the staff also thoroughly enjoyed the experience, which has also contributed to their personal and work development.  “

Nigel Bird, who is a sports tutor at Hereward, visited the students on several occasions during their work placements and said he was impressed by the staff’s interaction with the students:

“ The welcoming, supportive and structured environment provided was just what was needed to cater for the particular needs and possible anxieties associated with our young adults. “

The Leisure Complex hopes to continue their successful relationship with the College by offering further work placements in the future.
