Students have an awesome time at Hereward's Bonfire Night

Last Saturday, 5th November 2011, Hereward College hosted its 10th annual Bonfire Night. The event was a great success with more than 150 people attending! This was a great opportunity for students to have fun, socialise and participate in a national celebration.

The event included a disco and astonishing firework displays, which left the attendees stunned, accompanied by a bar, hot dogs and burgers! Sheila Fleming, the College Principal, who also attended the event had the following to say: 'It was a great evening for the Hereward College community of students, staff, family and friends with a lively performance from students, and a fabulous firework display as well as food and drink and a disco,  all made possible through the hard work of many people who gave a lot of their own time to make it happen. It was great fun and a really good example of Hereward's community spirit.'

As this was our 10th event, we tried to do something special and students were eager to assist in the organisation and support the College however they could. Some of the performing arts students took part in a flashmob, organised by Mel Aherne while students from the Indigo shop (our College Shop) helped to sell hot dogs and burgers.

In order to make the night even more pleasurable, we decided to invite parents and ex-students as well, so the students could enjoy the night with their most loved ones. Alumni saw this as a great opportunity to reunite and reconnect with past and present students.

There was a great atmosphere and everybody thoroughly enjoyed the fireworks and, afterwards, the disco. One of the parents had the following to say: ‘It was an awesome night! The whole family enjoyed the whole evening including the fireworks, the food, disco and bar. We were very impressed by how everything was organised’.

Jamie Hamilton, a youth worker at the College who organized the event, and the Students’ Union wanted to ‘(…) thank all those members of staff who volunteered their time to help contribute to the success of the whole evening'.
